How do you interpret the billing codes for in-office device checks performed by paid office employees, (RN's, NP's, and techs?) Do these codes require "direct supervision" for billing the global code or "general supervision?"

To piggyback onto Sallie's response, non-APPs require "direct physician supervision" but his does not require them to be in the room with the RN or technician. Our interpretation is that the physician needs to be in the building where the service is being provided and readily available as needed.
IN-Office device checks are considered to be Diagnostic tests by CMS.  The requirements for Diagnostic testing are different for Advanced Practice Providers than non APPs.  For RNs and techs, diagnostic testing must be done under "direct physician supervision".  APPs performing their own checks do not require direct supervision, however the APP may not act as the direct supervising MD for RNs or techs.  Hope this helps.
