  • 1.  Who has RN & DT Driven Device Clinics?

    Hello,

I am wondering how many device clinics are run completely by RN's & Device Techs and not PA's or NP's (if any)? I am speaking specifically to the annual in-office interrogation visits. Not the remotes.

Could you be so kind as to reply with your facility name and if this applies to your clinic? We are gathering data for our admins and they would like to know how common this is throughout the country/world.

    Thanks!

    Aimee, RN

We run our device clinic with Device Technicians at Carient Heart and Vascular. We also read the ambulatory monitors so we split the tasks between staff. Device checks and remotes are done by staff who have had the training.

Hello! Thanks for the prompt reply, I edited my question afterwards. Sorry for any confusion. I am asking about the in-office annual interrogation visits and not the remote device checks. Do you all have an NP, PA, or MD at these clinics? Or do you just have RN's or DT's doing this with an MD available if needed whom then signs off on it at somepoint? Thanks

Hi Aimee.  At Emory Healthcare our Device RNs and Cardiac Device Specialists/Technicians  see patients independently, and our physicians sign off on the reports.  All device staff are trained to interrogate and program devices, and interpret arrhythmia egrams. We have a comprehensive physician notification protocol and escalate urgent issues directly to our EP MDs.  We also have  one APP  available if needed.

    Hope this helps.

Our clinic operates with mostly technologists and one RN.  I will assist in clinic oftentimes as well. I am currently recruiting an additional RN. Our APPs have their own schedules.  We usually have one APP that will assist us with patients that are having any urgent issues or an EP doc that we can consult with.

Our device clinic is overseen by an APP/MD bur run by RN's. We have one RN who is a Clinical Leader and the Clinic has a Device Clinic Coordinator (myself - an NP)

We follow 2600 patients with a 5 RN staff covering remotes, in person and in hospital.

    Hello Aimee!

Sorry about responding so late after your original message.

At Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute (North & South Carolina), our device clinic team includes 1 RN Director, 2 RN Supervisors, 18 RNs and 6 Device Technicians following 12,000 + patients.

Our Pediatric EP MDs check patients occasionally in regional offices, but otherwise, we are completely staffed with RNs and Device Technicians. APPs do not check devices.

    Hope that helps!
