Does anyone out there have both RNs and non-RNs on their Device Teams who are CCDS certified, and if so, is there a difference in their roles/responsibilities?
Our device staff (RN and non-RN) go into the hospital to troubleshoot devices, make MRI and OR programming changes, and do the post implant teaching. In clinic, the device staff see the patients separately, before they see the Ep MD team, so our EP nurses perform the medication reconciliation and prescription renewal. The device staff perform the interrogation, interpret the results, including analysis of the egrams/episodes, and make programming changes based on physician-approved programming guidelines.
Of course the RNs bring excellent clinical assessment skills, while the biomed engineers bring a great understanding of the device technical algorithms. In clinic settings similar to ours, for an experienced staff who is CCDS certified, is there a difference in these roles as relates to their responsibilities or compensation?
