Hi AHPs! Welcome to the Research and Publishing Forum.

This thread serves as your resource for any questions you have  about conducting research, QI or EBP projects, and how to publish including information about how to write an abstract and submit an article for publication. We are  here to answer any questions you might have about a particular project and how to get started.

To begin, I have uploaded a voice over power point on 'How to Summarize Data Using Statistics".  When you open the file, first "enable editing" then click on "Slide show" from the Beginning. You can also click on 'View" and print notes pages. Tell us what kind of topics you would like to hear more about! We look forward to hearing from you.

Hi all who are interested in the Research and Publishing Forum!!!

Thanks Carrie Harvey for initiating this effort. Great learning opportunity for AHPs.

Carrie attached a voiceover ppt presentation of her topic, on summarizing data with statistics, from HRS 2022 AHP Research Session on April 30, 2022.
My presentation, attached here, describes the steps you need to take once you have identified a study topic of interest such as, reviewing the literature, developing your PICOT question and writing a proposal to get institutional approval to conduct your study.

I hope you find this series and forum helpful.
There is a method to our madness, as we hope you will also publish your study results, especially in the AHP sections of either Heart Rhythm O2 or Case Reports.

    Hello all---
We had a very good discussion regarding the use of glioflozins in cardiovascular diease. This is a bit outside of the EP area, but it appears that we may be seeing more and more of our patients on one of these drugs based on the evidence outlined in these trials. The journal club goes hand in hand with the research forum because critical appraisal of evidence is one of the things we do in journal club! For those of you who were unable to make it to our last journal club, I am posting the power point and the review article for your reading pleasure!! We hope to see you next time!!

    Hi Kathy,

It was such a great discussion; educational, lively, and collegial.  A terrific article choice and although not directly EP-related, on page 2030, the quote below, the impact on patients with arrhythmias is great data to know.

In the DECLARE–TIMI 58 trial, dapagliflozin was associated with a reduction in atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter (hazard ratio, 0.81; 95% CI, 0.68 to 0.95). In the DAPA-HF trial, dapagliflozin was associated with a reduction in ventricular arrhythmias, resuscitated cardiac arrest, or sudden death (hazard ratio, 0.73; 95% CI, 0.63 to 0.99). In a meta-analysis of 34 randomized, controlled trials, SGLT2 inhibitors were also associated with significant reductions in atrial arrhythmias (odds ratio, 0.81; 95% CI, 0.69 to 0.95) and sudden cardiac death (odds ratio, 0.72; 95% CI, 0.54 to 0.97).

I am looking forward to your sharing experiences in Cardiology.  Truly appreciate all the work you do for AHPs.

Looking forward to The Research Roundtable meetings. I need better understanding of odds ratios, confidence intervals, and p-values!

    Hi all,

Hope everyone is enjoying the summer months!

I found this short list of research and statistical terms discussed in one of my graduate nursing classes and I thought it might be helpful for our forum so I attached it here.

Looking forward to our Research Forum presentation by Carrie Harvey in the Fall!

    See you soon,
