Remote billing practices for Carelink Express, Latitude Consult and Merlin on Demand

    Hello colleagues,

We recently began utilizing Carelink Express\, Latitude Consult and Merlin on Demand in our emergency department. If you do this at your institution, would you be willing to share your expertise and billing practices with me either in this forum or in a conversation? Some specific questions:
    1. Can the technical fee be billed by the institution when the initial read on the report is provided by the company reps?
    2. Can the technical fee be billed by the emergency department if the Device Clinic writes up a report the following day?
    3. How will billing this technical fee for a remote interrogation be affected by the prior and affect the subsequent billing cycle?
    4. Can it be billed as an "in person" interrogation rather than a remote, since it is being performed in a hospital (even though it is being performed with an interrogation only device)?

    Thank you,

    Linda Schwartz

Using those types of "interrogators" is considered an interrogation in person and not a remote. Oftentimes this falls within a remote monitoring period and is not billable.
Whenever a device check is done by a rep, no matter where it is done, we do not charge a technical fee as they provided the service.
