ILR symptomatic transmissions

    Good afternoon,

I am curious at to how other clinics are managing ILR symptomatic transmissions. I am referring to transmissions received where the rhythm is normal overall and an actual symptom is not recorded but was patient initiated.

Are you contacting these patients to assess their "symptom" or why the transmission was sent if there is no arrhythmia?

I would appreciate your thoughts and input.

    Thank you,

Hi Michael, we do not routinely reach out to patients, but they have guidance from insertion education to call the clinic for significant symptoms and syncope. If the ILR app allows them to mark a specific symptom, like "fluttering" that is helpful. We do sometimes reach out via the patient portal to inquire, and patients can also view their monthly summary report in the EMR, so the symptom episodes will be addressed there. I think a "symptom" episode that has no arrhythmia can be diagnostic and helpful to guide a patient toward a non-arrhythmia diagnosis if we see multiple examples.
