ILR implantation - billing by APPs

    Hello Colleagues -

This has been asked on this forum before, but I am asking again to see if there is updated info.  As APP presence in EP labs grows, I am interested in challenges you have faced with billing ILR implantation under an NP NPI number.  My billing folk are questioning that medicare will not reimburse NPs as primary operators, only assistants. Since this was declared a minor surgical procedure in 2019, I believe that this is "old" information. Can anyone update regarding your experiences?  Any carriers that deny outright?

We are in our proctoring phase to obtain this privilege.  Our hospital system primarily is interested in APPs doing the ILR implants for cryptogenic stroke inpatients in our EP holding area -- which will be DRG payment based.  But of course, once we are credentialed fully, the question will come up if we should also do the outpatients that come to our EP holding area for other diagnoses.

I'd love to connect with you to hear your experiences.  And shameless plug - come to the HRS ILR session on Saturday May 18th at 2 pm to hear more!

    Thanks - Jill

    Hi Jill

Appreciate the question for clarification. I asked similar question in regards to reimbursement recently. Our possible scenario would be outpatient setting, similar patient population
