HI Erin and Linda,
At Emory we also use the PrepMD modules for training for anyone who does not have device knowledge. We have found it to be a very logical format, like building blocks, so that concepts expand on each other. I have used this for RNSs, as well as Biomedical Engineers, who are new to devices. We usually pair the didactic modules with shadowing a preceptor in clinic, which helps translate the conceptual into practical: 4 hours at work on modules and 4 hours in clinic each day. After the concepts begin to take root, and the person is comfortable with the basics, we schedule some time with each rep to elaborate on their specifics. Good luck to you and your team!

Linda,
Thanks for sharing. The overview of the workflow you follow is very helpful. I'll be looking into what PrepMD has to offer, too.

Hi Erin, I'd be happy to chat with you and share our process. We are currently utilizing PrepMD's online training program as our didactic content and 1:1 education/hands on training with experienced preceptors. We also tap our industry reps for hands on programmer sessions. Our orientation process is about 6 months, and we orient nurses to in clinic/hospital/procedural device interrogations and troubleshooting and remote monitoring. We supplement the PrepMD content with vendor specific content like Boston Scientific's Educare and Medtronic Academy too.

Hello,
Can anyone share their onboarding and training process for new device nurses for both in-clinic and remote transmission processing? What kind of basic workflow do you follow in your clinic (general flow, education materials, any specific tools you've found helpful in the training process)?
Erin
