Current practices in AF monitoring post-PVI?

  • 1.  Current practices in AF monitoring post-PVI?

    Posted 12-15-2023 13:45

    Hello,

Would anyone like to share their current practice in monitoring patients post-PVI? Do you routinely provide patients with any type of monitor to document arrhythmia in the months following PVI? Are you getting any reimbursement for monitoring?  Do you rely on symptoms and have patients send in Kardia/Apple watch documentation?  Have patients get EKGs? ILR implants? No monitoring at all until follow-up?

    Appreciate any input! Thank you!

    Good morning,

I would say it partially depends on the indication for the ablation. If the primary indication was symptomatic AF, so then we monitor by symptoms or other signs of reoccurrence, even as simple as pts tracking their BP and HR's.  We do routinely see the patient at 3 months and get and ECG during that visit.

We do not recommend routine monitoring unless they asymptomatic and we were treating for another indication such as cardiomyopathy.

I do not bill insurance so I cannot speak to that aspect.
