All CIEDs eventually end up as medical waste. This waste is potentially hazardous (fire risk, chemical contamination etcetera).
We've been sending our explanted devices to a battery and metal recycler, but there are cost issues.
Currently we are being quoted $15 Au per device, and this is a "special rate" requiring at least 50 units. Previously the recycler was charging a $150 collection fee, then only $1.10 per kg, so this is approximately a 500 fold increase in cost.
If anyone else is recycling their devices, can you please advise what you are paying (or if the recycler pays you)?
Do you have local laws about disposal methods?
