  • 1.  Training RN in device clinic

    Posted 02-08-2022 15:54
    Good afternoon all,
We recently hired an RN for our device clinic. Currently we have three device techs, three medical assistants and an NP (me!) for a clinic with 6 EP attendings. I am looking to see how others have used the RN role in the device clinic and if anyone has a training program that would not mind sharing. Any resources or tips would be appreciated!

Hello Carissa. I retired last year but I was director of a large EP group of 12 EPs. So I will try to give you some issues to think about:
1- how to define the role of the RN in general is for this precessional to be the person who would triage patients and help you (NP the provider) to have enough data to plan care/intervention.
I am not sure what this RN's background is, but if experienced he/she can be a fabulous support for the providers and the patients. This is particularly important if you are managing a good ratio of patients with CHF and those with low EF and quite a few with ventricular Arrhythmia. Thé more complex your protocols are the more you will need someone to triage/liaison and educator in the device clinic team.
Does this help? I hope so. Lease let me know if you need any further assistance

     Sincerely,
    Salwa Beheiry

    Hi Carissa,

I'm happy to share with you a document I put together outlining the roles of our tech and RNs! Feel free to shoot me an e-mail. We are still developing our device RN role here, but I feel like we're moving in the right direction.

Hello, we hired Device Techs recently in our clinic and would like to get some info on how the techs are utilized in other facilities. What are the expectations/roles of Device Tech for a seamless workflow with the Device Nurse in clinic? Thanks in advance!

    Sincerely,

    Pat B - Stamford Health
